Opera in three acts, libretto by Alban Berg, "Lulu" is based on two works by Frank Wedekind who had a great influence on the german "madmen of the roaring twenties" , "The spirit of the earth" and "Pandora's box" . The duality - of the woman as a spirit and as a prostitute - present in these two works is the key to Berg's work, especially in this opera.
