Alicia is a vast initiatory chess game played out between dreams and reality. Moving to-and-fro between a strange narration and the author himself who, for the lady he admires, improvises a story which hardly seems in keeping with the character of the dull, stuttering assistant professor that he embodies in Oxford. Alice is a young girl from the Victorian period, yet her journey to Wonderland has lost none of its modern twist.
